Food, glorious food!

There's so much food in the house!

Between our improvements on budgeting for groceries, creative use of what we already have, and the free food we've been getting from our families, placements, Alice's Garden, etc, none of us LVCers should go hungry anytime soon. In fact, part of me is wondering if we may have a food waste problem if we're not careful.

In terms of the simple lifestyle we are aiming to live this year, this certainly feels like an abundance we are not supposed to have. On the other hand, who are we to refuse free food?

My housemate Emily pointed out that in terms of understanding the possible life situations of those we are serving, the abundance of food seems definitely unrealistic.
To which I responded, yes.

But maybe this is only the beginning.

Perhaps we're getting this extra food because we're, in Emily's words, "new and shiny," having just started our year of service, just getting used to our new lifestyle and living situation, and people want to give us food as a result. Once we get farther into the year, maybe things will be different. We will have been around for a while, people will think we have it together and won't need extra help. At that point, maybe we will better sympathize with those who have hardly enough to scrape by yet too much to receive most free/social services.

I guess we'll just have to find out. In the mean time, I can't wait to use what we've got now.

Also, did mention I love church potlucks? :-)
